Australian Survivor All Stars (S5… or S7… wrap up)

When I started this blog I was mainly an anime watcher but in recent years I’ve found my love of anime being subsumed by my rediscovery of the TV show Survivor. Just in time for the re-birth of the Australian version of the franchise. This post is probably going to be pretty rambly, more so than normal, because I’ve had a lot of thoughts about this season and I’m not 100% sure how I should structure them. And also I’m a bit more interested in the season through the lens of the production process and the community reaction than maybe the season itself. I’ll do my best to explain any terminology I use that is specific to Survivor but I apologise if I miss any because I use/think in these terms so often I forget what is clear and what isn’t (classic example how in sports GOAT is a great thing but in Survivor a goat is a terrible thing) Continue reading “Australian Survivor All Stars (S5… or S7… wrap up)”

Winter 2020 Season Review and General Round Up

I feel that every anime season I say “this was a pretty bad season” or, at best, “this was a mediocre season” but this season seems to have been particularly disappointing.

For the first time since I started watching seasonal anime (circa 2013?) there isn’t a single show that I picked up from the season and then enjoyed watching all the way through. The handful of shows I’m still watching are either sequels (and even then I’ve dropped some sequels) or are shows I’m watching as a joke (because they are bad). Like normally I don’t start writing these reviews until three weeks after the season has finished. But I’m starting this one nearly two weeks before the next season starts. Madness. In particular I’m shocked at how many shows I got more than halfway through and then just stopped watching. Continue reading “Winter 2020 Season Review and General Round Up”

Spring 2019 Anime Wrap Up Review and some extra stuff

Gonna be a short one today I suspect. There were only a handful of shows I watched and only a handful of those were actually worth watching.

There was an obvious trend this season of shows having interesting premises and good opening episodes but then falling off a cliff towards the end. Hardly a new thing but for whatever reason there was a higher than normal amount of it amongst the things that I watched. Continue reading “Spring 2019 Anime Wrap Up Review and some extra stuff”

Winter 2019 Anime Review

I enjoy how as each season passes I have less and less enthusiasm to write in anything approximating a reasonable timeframe.

As seems to be a recurring theme, a fair chunk of shows in this season had interesting premises or ideas but then ended up kind of dissappointing. So consistently so that it’s not really worth dividing up good/bad among the things I did watch. Continue reading “Winter 2019 Anime Review”

Extra- Christmas and New Year Backlog!

Because I have the pleasure of living interstate from all my family, I am in the incredibly lucky siutation that I can do whatever I want during the Christmas+New Year holiday/”shut down” period. And because I spend 50 weeks of the year working like a madman, this year I decided to spend it doing as little as possible and watching anime. Notably, I decided to test out the AnimeLab platform. Which is fine as far as streaming platforms go. If you want “legit access” to anime I’d put it above crunchyroll.

Anyway I watched/rewatched a bunch of fantastic shows and have some thoughts about them. Some more than others: Continue reading “Extra- Christmas and New Year Backlog!”
