GAMMA.CON 2018 (and Wintercon 2018) Review

Being a Canberra boy (well, more-or-less) I have a bit of a soft spot for our local conventions. Given they don’t cost any money for me to go to, are within 20 minutes driving distance of my house (with ample parking) and have by far the largest number of my friends/acquaintances in attendance; it’s a pretty low bar for me to be impressed.

Well, it’s still a high bar as I’m a cynical jackass who doesn’t have positive feelings but attending an interstate event is much more of a hassle and thus primes me to expect more (and thus be disappointed more). Continue reading “GAMMA.CON 2018 (and Wintercon 2018) Review”

SMASH 2018- TL:DR it was fine but 2019 could be great

For the weekend of August 14th-15th 2018, I got to go to SMASH– the Sydney Manga and Anime Show. Have been to every one of them since… 2014? 2012? Winter 2017/2018 wrap up

What a season. So many shows that I’ve watched with one eye while writing emails and doing other admin paperwork. Thank *deity* that I’ve been pretty sick the last week and thus at reduced mental capacity and  able to tolerate some of the shows I persisted in watch.

Here’s my category by category breakdown. Definitely the same categories I used for previous seasons. Continue reading “Winter 2017/2018 wrap up”

Fall 2017 Anime Wrap Up

Yo. The 2017 Fall Anime Season (or Autumn I guess) has just finished. Here’s what a cynical dickhead thinks was good and bad. Spoilers probably. Some note first:

– Typically I follow the ‘rule of three’ and watch the first three eps of every show I can a hold of.  It is rare for me to watch less than that even if a show is clearly terrible. But not unheard of.

– Any show that I’m watching which is 2-cour I won’t really talk about. Although that only applies to 3-gatsu no Lion 2 (fucking amazing show) and Garo- Vanishing Line (ok show). Continue reading “Fall 2017 Anime Wrap Up”
