As is fast becoming an annual tradition, between work going into Christmas closure on Dec 24th and reopening on Jan 4th; I did my best to have zero human contact/interactions and spend the time lazing about watching random stuff and having no plan more than 15 minutes in advance. Was great, but felt especially brief this year compared to previous years. So here’s my comments on the stuff I watched:Read morE
Another season is done and dusted and I’m really not sure how I feel about it. Maybe it’s just the ongoing COVID pandemic upsetting subconscious emotions (although we’re doing pretty well in Australia compared to other places) but this season felt weirdly unsatisfying. Not that things were bad but that things were really incomplete. And I found way more interest in several random shows I picked up apropos of nothing.Continue reading “Autumn 2020 season review.”
Another season done and the endless pandemic makes the concept of time increasinly less relevant and hard to follow. Would be nice if there was more great stuff to watch.Continue reading “Summer 2020 Review and COVID Recap pt3”
As COVID-19 continues and there is no new Survivor on the horizon, I’ve resumed my rewatch of Survivor seasons I’ve missed. And I’m now up to China.
Overall this was a pretty fantastic season. However there wasn’t really anything that stood out- none of the characters were incredible, none of the moves were jaw dropping, none of the challenges were astounding, none of the moments were historical (even if they seemed so at the time). But while it didn’t perform spectacularly in any area, it did perform well above average in every area.Continue reading “US Survivor S15- China (2007)”
A somewhat disrupted season- it seems like 3/4 of the shows this season were impacted and delayed due to production issues brought on by COVID (very reasonable- people shouldn’t get contagious illnesses so we can watch our Chinese cartoons!). Fortunately most of the delayed shows were shit so didn’t super affect me. And gave me some time to check out some other stuff.Continue reading “Spring 2020 and more COVID stuff”
Fuck me, this is like the third time I’ve tried writing this blog but between the fucked new layout in WordPress and the fact that apparently neither the autosave nor manual save feature seems to want to actually work, all my work keeps getting lost. And with each attempt my desire to actually detail my thoughts on Survivor 40: Winners at War (“WaW”) and Survivor 28: Cagayan (“Cagayan”) gets less and less. Especially as time passes and the in-the-moment emotions have long since passed.
Look, in brief WaW was good/fine and Cagayan was good/fun. The former is a great season for existing fans, the latter a fantastic one for someone to try out to see what all the fuss is about.
Damn COVID-19 is a weird time. Here’s a mostly complete list of things I watched.
When I started this blog I was mainly an anime watcher but in recent years I’ve found my love of anime being subsumed by my rediscovery of the TV show Survivor. Just in time for the re-birth of the Australian version of the franchise. This post is probably going to be pretty rambly, more so than normal, because I’ve had a lot of thoughts about this season and I’m not 100% sure how I should structure them. And also I’m a bit more interested in the season through the lens of the production process and the community reaction than maybe the season itself. I’ll do my best to explain any terminology I use that is specific to Survivor but I apologise if I miss any because I use/think in these terms so often I forget what is clear and what isn’t (classic example how in sports GOAT is a great thing but in Survivor a goat is a terrible thing) Continue reading “Australian Survivor All Stars (S5… or S7… wrap up)”
I feel that every anime season I say “this was a pretty bad season” or, at best, “this was a mediocre season” but this season seems to have been particularly disappointing.
For the first time since I started watching seasonal anime (circa 2013?) there isn’t a single show that I picked up from the season and then enjoyed watching all the way through. The handful of shows I’m still watching are either sequels (and even then I’ve dropped some sequels) or are shows I’m watching as a joke (because they are bad). Like normally I don’t start writing these reviews until three weeks after the season has finished. But I’m starting this one nearly two weeks before the next season starts. Madness. In particular I’m shocked at how many shows I got more than halfway through and then just stopped watching. Continue reading “Winter 2020 Season Review and General Round Up”
Holy crap this is highly delayed. I completed underestimated how much crap I’ve watched. Plus it all got a little conflated with my Summer Hermit watching so I may be double counting a few things here. Continue reading “Fall 2019 Season + Extra bits and pieces”
