After the success of embracing a hermit lifestyle last year over the Christmas+New Year break; I was all guns blazing to do it again this year. And it was great. My original plan was to hit up the local streaming sites and work through the things I’ve bookmarked there. But then my landlord broke the home WiFi network and that was out of the picture. So instead I decided to work through the “Backlog” folder I have on my laptop and in doing so managed to clear out near 200GB worth of bluray quality anime. While also playing games and reading books and such. Continue reading “Summer Hermit 2019/2020 Bonus Watching”
Summer 2019 Anime Wrap Up Review and extras
Summer 2019 Season
Overall this was pretty disappointing season for me. But I wonder if it was because the season itself was bad or if I made it seem relatively bad by rewatching some older shows which were really fun. Continue reading “Summer 2019 Anime Wrap Up Review and extras”
Spring 2019 Anime Wrap Up Review and some extra stuff
Gonna be a short one today I suspect. There were only a handful of shows I watched and only a handful of those were actually worth watching.
There was an obvious trend this season of shows having interesting premises and good opening episodes but then falling off a cliff towards the end. Hardly a new thing but for whatever reason there was a higher than normal amount of it amongst the things that I watched. Continue reading “Spring 2019 Anime Wrap Up Review and some extra stuff”
Winter 2019 Anime Review
I enjoy how as each season passes I have less and less enthusiasm to write in anything approximating a reasonable timeframe.
As seems to be a recurring theme, a fair chunk of shows in this season had interesting premises or ideas but then ended up kind of dissappointing. So consistently so that it’s not really worth dividing up good/bad among the things I did watch. Continue reading “Winter 2019 Anime Review”
Extra- Christmas and New Year Backlog!
Because I have the pleasure of living interstate from all my family, I am in the incredibly lucky siutation that I can do whatever I want during the Christmas+New Year holiday/”shut down” period. And because I spend 50 weeks of the year working like a madman, this year I decided to spend it doing as little as possible and watching anime. Notably, I decided to test out the AnimeLab platform. Which is fine as far as streaming platforms go. If you want “legit access” to anime I’d put it above crunchyroll.
Anyway I watched/rewatched a bunch of fantastic shows and have some thoughts about them. Some more than others: Continue reading “Extra- Christmas and New Year Backlog!”
Fall 2018 Anime Round Up
I’m only about a month late but whatever. Fall 2018 was a fairly uninspired season- chatting with a friend yesterday I literally couldn’t name a single show I’d watched without referring to my notes. Continue reading “Fall 2018 Anime Round Up”
Summer 2018 Anime Review
It felt like I watched very few shows this season, so looking back at what I had apparently watched was quite a surprise. Here’s some thoughts: Continue reading “Summer 2018 Anime Review”
GAMMA.CON 2018 (and Wintercon 2018) Review
Being a Canberra boy (well, more-or-less) I have a bit of a soft spot for our local conventions. Given they don’t cost any money for me to go to, are within 20 minutes driving distance of my house (with ample parking) and have by far the largest number of my friends/acquaintances in attendance; it’s a pretty low bar for me to be impressed.
Well, it’s still a high bar as I’m a cynical jackass who doesn’t have positive feelings but attending an interstate event is much more of a hassle and thus primes me to expect more (and thus be disappointed more). Continue reading “GAMMA.CON 2018 (and Wintercon 2018) Review”
SMASH 2018- TL:DR it was fine but 2019 could be great
For the weekend of August 14th-15th 2018, I got to go to SMASH– the Sydney Manga and Anime Show. Have been to every one of them since… 2014? 2012? Saw them at the old Sydney Convention Centre, Rosehill Gardens and now Sydney’s new ICC. Well, the Exhibition Centre part of the ICC (as opposed to the Convention Centre which I assume the ‘CC’ part of ICC stands for) Continue reading “SMASH 2018- TL:DR it was fine but 2019 could be great”
